Since this is my first post of the year, I thought I’d start off by wishing everybody a very Happy 2009, and may you stick to all the resolutions you’ve taken on New Year’s Eve. Let’s get on with it!
As 2008 was ending, I was desperate to finally get crakcing on those very tasty Level 4 missions. I’d been working on my standing for quite a while, stretching that Level 3 muscle as much as I could… even the agent must’ve gotten bored with me. I also finally realized that by training Social Lvl V, Negotiations Lvl V and Connections Lvl V, it changed my perspective on moneymaking in Eve tremendously.
But as time flew (or in this instance, crawled)Â forward and I kept on stabbing at those Level 3 missions, I eventually encountered a Battleship in mission. No matter what I threw at it (I spent 18 million ISK on Hammerhead IIs, may they rest in peace), I could not get past the shields of that battleship. So I called in a few favors and some friends came to help me out… twice.
It wasn’t about the cash, it’s just about getting somewhere with the standing — that standing was going to give me access to Level 4 missions. I couldn’t afford to set myself back 2 missions again.
So I discovered that my corpmates all (or mostly all) use Missiles; something I don’t do. I’m a Railgun guy, being Gallente in a Gallente ship. But at this point, not using missiles is just suicide – I can’t afford not to. So I’m training all the time, bought about 12M of Skillbooks about Missiles, and just a few missions will get me the advanced books as well (especially with all those LPs). My Missile skills aren’t that impressive yet, but at the rate I’m training them, I should have Torpedoes in no time.
Problem with this is that I fly a Dominix. My Domi is quite something; I only need another skill to ensure that any PvPer will not survive an encounter with me. But I cannot mission enough with it, since it’s not fitted with launcher hardpoints. And I need those missiles.
So, since 2009 was right around the corner, I figured I’d treat myself to a second battleship. One that is sufficiently powerful that I’ll be able to run through missions with ease… one that’s versatile enough that I can walk through any mission without having to buy 12 million worth of Drones.
Hence my choice of the Megathron.
I still have some ways to go with the skills, but it is perfectly designed for my needs. A few tweaks here and there, and a few skills here and there, I should be a top-notch mission runner. I’ll have more info about my ship in later posts… for now, I’m just content in telling you that my ship is killer.
Anybody ever notice how the front of the Mega resembles a 1980 Camaro Z28?
If anyone thinks my choice isn’t an educated one, please – enlighten me. Peace!
