Being a sort of a newbie at MMOGing, Eve-Online is rapidly becoming my favorite subject. Which is why I’m offering this blog to all you fans out there.
By reading the devBlog, and also several other Eve blogger responses, I wanna offer my opinion to all who care. Seems to me this change will really have an effect on 2 things: stellar cartography, and interstellar economy.
To me, a change to the maps is very simple -you move from one place to the next. I think in fact, that this change will be for the best – I recently got podded in hi-sec space (0.8) and no one was there to help or stop the retard who shot me down. Luckily I had insurance and a sufficiently upgraded clone. This guy currently has a 1M isk bounty on his head, offered by me (name: terrifiedkiller), and I learned the hard way that I needed a better ship. Now, for the most part, I know I should take care of myself, and I can’t rely on CONCORD every little thing that happens… but as a 7-day-old player, I would have expected a little bit more. Currently, this guys is still out there, wreaking havoc on other unsuspecting newbies.
The other part is economics. Essentially, some factions, alliances and corps, will have to reajust their ways or move out. Moving, however, can be very costly, especially when you have a POS in the sector that just got reassigned its security level.
IÂ suspect these changes will make many people unhappy, but I fully understand developers when they deal with an open-ended universe like this. Changes have to occur at some point, so players must adapt. Frankly, this is a must-understand type of deal between players and developers.
Otherwise, you can always go and play WoW.
My 2isk!
