Theft (In-and-Out-of-game)

19th November, 2008

First, for the out-of-game part… Let me first apologize to Weekend Warrior and Mr.Ombey, because when I saw their nice little tag cloud in their blogs, I had to jump on the bandwagon! For the readers who have blogs, I found the plugin in Wordpress.org – go out and get it! For those who do not own blogs, well… this is for your enjoyment, so, Enjoy!

Now for the in-game part.

As of today, it’s been at least 4 days since my last appearance in Eve, and although I am terribly aware that I need to get back to it, these next few days will be difficult for me as I am in the middle of many major personal changes. However, for the record I can truly say Eve is an addiction. Most people will agree with me when they say video games are addictive – one of the most addictive of which is World of Warcraft (which I don’t play, but have seen). I can tell you that the differences of being in Eve compared to any other game are really what make it addictive.

The time it takes for anyone to get anywhere in this game is phenomenally realistic. For someone like me, who’s used to playing titles like Final Fantasy (any which one), or for that matter most RPGs out there, I’m used to seeing a lot of boring game time because I need to level up. In Eve, the fact that you must eveolve (pun intended) makes it all the more real. You have to play with a weakness, which is either $$ or skills; but any which way you cut it, you’ll always find someone stronger than you in Eve. And if you’re that person, players will gang up on you. But until the time when you are all-powerful, you are at a disadvantage against the entire gameplay environment, which makes it risky. That risk factor is what makes Eve so nerve-racking, and so exciting.

This is why I mentioned theft before: Eve stole my time. I can’t shake my need to play, and I can’t bypass the need for patience. There’s just no way of cheating.

Hopefully by tonight I’ll be able to get back into my Myrmidon and go find some interesting things to do… while I wait for my skills to grow!
